1950-1998

Maury Scott Jones, died Tuesday, September 9, 1998.  He was 48 years old.
Born August 7, 1950, in Houston, Texas to Roderick Maurice Jones (1922-1984), and Abbie Marie France Jones (1922-2012).

He was the beloved son of Marie Jones and brother of Janice Brugioni.

Maury died unexpectedly in his sleep after a long and difficult comeback from a stroke suffered in 1991.

His father, Roderick M. Jones, preceded him in death in 1984. He is survived also by his aunts, Elizabeth Garner and Lucille Pickard, his uncles, Jack Jones and Wayne Garrett, and numerous cousins.

He was a shining example of good-natured courage in adversity, and he had a heart as big as all outdoors. We love him dearly, and he will be sorely missed.

Graveside services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale on Monday, September 14, 2:00 p.m. On Tuesday, September 15, 2:00 p.m., a memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Methodist Church. Both services will be conducted by Reverend Terry Thompson. Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale.

I remember Maury as a really mild, but very funny guy. We spent some time together on the 'tennis' team, but neither one of us took it too seriously.

I was really sad to hear of his passing (as it is with all), but I spent quite a bit of time conversing with Maury at the 30th Reunion in mid-August, 2003 (only a month before his passing).

He was a great guy, and has been and will always be missed.
